Wulong Karst National Geology Park

Wulong Karst National Geology Park. With its echoing caves, plunging sinkholes, stony ravines, and breath-taking natural bridges, it represents an integral part of the karst landscape in southern China and was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2007. Located in Wulong County of Chongqing Municipality, the park is divided into three major areas, which each encompass a notable attraction.Wulong becomes well-known to tourists due to Michael Bay's hit movie ? Transformers: Age of Extinction, which directly shows the majesty beauty of the Three Natural Bridges in Wulong. Besides the famous movie-site, other interesting nature surroundings are also in this area, like Furong Cave, Longshuixia Gap and Fairy Mountain.

By comparison to the lofty heights of the Three Natural Bridges and Fairy Mountain, the Longshuixia Gap Scenic Area may seem like a bit of a downer! It is centred on unique karst landforms known as “tiankeng”, which roughly translates to “sinkhole” or “doline”. These are large depressions or chasms in the earth that have been caused by the surface layer either collapsing or being eroded away. The scenic area is unsurprisingly named after its most esteemed resident: the Qingkou Tiankeng. The tiankeng cluster found in this area is thought to be the only one in the world that was formed by surface water erosion. Each of the five sinkholes in this area has an average diameter and depth of around 300 metres (984 ft.).

Natural Three Stone Bridges in Wulong

Three Natural Bridges is located 20 kilometers (12 miles) southeast of Chongqing City in Wulong County. It is a rare geological wonder and an eco-tourist's delight. It features three natural karst bridges: Tianlong Bridge, Qinglong Bridgeand Heilong Bridge. The three natural karst stone arch bridges, with an averageheight of over 200 meters (656 feet), and an average span of over 200 meters(656 feet), constitute the largest natural bridge cluster in Asia.

The three natural bridges are situated in a 1.5 kilometer (12 mile) - long gorge. They evolved due to tectonic uplift and the erosion by underground water. Some parts uplifted forming the bridges, and others collapsed to form karst pits. Therefore, the unique landscape of 'Three Natural Bridges enclosed with Two Pits' is solely nature's creation.

Tianlong Bridge is about 200 meters (656 feet) in height, 100 meters (328 feet) in width. It spans 450 meters (1,476 feet), and has two arches from south to north. The south arch was also called Mihun Cave. The northern arch is a passage.

Qinglong Bridge is about 350 meters (1,148 feet) high, 150 meters (492 feet) wide, and spans over 400 meters (1,312 meters). After the rains, a waterfall pours over the bridge and forms a mist. When the sunset reflects on the mist, a colorful rainbow emerges like a dragon ascending to the heaven.

Heilong Bridge has a deep and long arch passage, like a black dragon winding its way out from the passage. Heilong Bridge is also renowned for its four springs with tortuous trickles of stream. The Three Natural Bridges is a karst stone arch bridge cluster unrivalled elsewhere of Asia in terms of height and the thickness of the bridge surface. It is magnificent.

Fairy Mountain National Forest Park

Fairy Mountain located on north bank of WuJiang River of Wulong Country, Chongqing, within the Wuling Mountain Range. Fairy Mountain State Forest Park owns a total area of 8910 hectares and an average elevation of 1900m, which has a highest peak of 2033 m.

Fairy Mountain ? With its uniquely famous mountains and grasslands of south of the Yangtze River, a rare example of dense forest snowfields in southern China, and a wonderful landscape of green forests and vast pastures, it has the reputation of being the No.1 Pasture in Southern China, as well as the "Orient's Switzerland". And Fairy Mountain State Forest Park has been famous for a reputation of Chongqing Best Tourist Report with combination of Magic Lotus Cave, graceful Lotus River, the world's largest Natural Stone Bridges group of geologic view, etc.

Its dense forests, peculiar peaks, pastures and snowfields are known by tourists as Fairy Mountain's "Four Wonders", all of which hold great potential for paintings and poems. This justifies its nickname as "Earth's Garden of Eden". With an overlook at Fairy Mountain, the magnificent and picturesque sightseeing will attract your breath deeply.

Furong Cave

Located on the bank of the Furong River, the final scenic area revolves around Furong or “Lotus” Cave. The cave itself is a whopping 2,846 metres (9,337 ft.) in length, with numerous vertical shafts, stalactites, and stalagmites dotted throughout its hollow expanse. These strange rock formations are said to look like frozen waterfalls and petrified palm trees, creating a labyrinthine fairy-tale world populated by grotesque and alien figures. Alongside limestone, the cave also boasts numerous red coral and calcite crystal deposits, which sparkle like precious jewels in the darkness.
